Washing your hands and doing it well has never been more important than in the current climate. There are five simple steps that can make a world of difference to your family’s health. Most know that your hands should be wet and you should use soap, but not everyone spends the full 20 seconds you need to get them truly clean. While a common suggestion to keep track of the time is humming the birthday song twice, that can get pretty boring.

To help keep it interesting, we've compiled a list of alternative songs you can hum to make sure you clean your hands the right way.

Best handwashing songs for kids

These videos can help liven things up while you teach younger kids to wash properly.

"Baby Shark." A great video for little ones aged 18 months and up, Baby Shark helps explain through song how to wash hands and cover coughs and sneezes.

"Wash Us." For ages 3 and up, this video captures everyday play as an important reason to wash your hands, and also instructs about how to perform hand hygiene.

"Wash, wash, wash your hands" by Little Angel teaches them to wash their hands to the tune of "If you're happy and you know it"

"Get Rid of Germs." For young school-aged children, Billy Gorilly has something to say about handwashing in his video. The song starts about halfway through the video and has more of a rock’n’roll vibe.

"Wash My Hands." A rap by Jack Hartmann explains how to wash hands step by step.

"The Epic Hand Washing Parody." For older school-aged children, between 10 and 12, this song is set to the tune of "Old Town Road" and adds some humor.

 

Best handwashing songs for teens

For the in-between teens who already know how to wash their hands, here are several videos that can provide fun with handwashing.

"Hand Wash Rap." This one was written by a teacher.

"One Republic's Handwashing Song." One Republic visits in the bathroom with Guillermo from Jimmy Kimmel.

"Handwashing Gangnam Style." Northhampton, Mass., residents and organizations came together to make this parody.

"20-Second Parodies for Handwashing." Aside from "Happy Birthday" or the alphabet song, here are more songs that help measure the time it takes to wash hands effectively.

"DJ Khaled's Handwashing Song." The Uninterrupted sports network teamed up with DJ Khaled to create a handwashing rap.

Any of us may be caught singing along to some of the songs our kids listen to. But for those who want a throwback on any day, here are some great options.

"I Gotta Wash My Hands." This Beatles rendition revisits the classic song "I Want to Hold Your Hand."

"Hands ... Washing Hands." Neil Diamond lends his expertise to the tune of Sweet Caroline
