What food safety practice can prevent cross contamination? Handwashing!

Written by Meritech | February 12,2024

Our hands can harbor and easily transfer pathogenic species like Salmonella and Escherichia coli (E. coli) to other hands and to food products. Handwashing is the best way to prevent the spread of pathogens between employees, and from employees to consumers through tainted beverage or food products.

Unfortunately 95% of people don’t wash their hands correctly, and even if they do follow all of the proper handwashing steps for the recommended 20 seconds, surfaces like faucet handles and paper towel dispensers can also transfer pathogens and pose a significant risk to food safety.

So how can you best prevent cross contamination for food safety?

CleanTech® Eliminates Cross-Contamination Touch Points for Food Safety

With CleanTech® automated handwashing stations, nozzles rotate around the hands 23 times in 12 seconds, pulling more than 99.9% of pathogens from the hands, each and every time. This highly effective hand wash all starts with the trigger of a photo-eye sensor.

By using a photo-eye sensor instead of a faucet like a traditional sink, we’ve eliminated one of the most common cross contamination touch points that could easily transfer pathogens back onto a person’s hands or between users.

Closed Loop Drainage Ensures No Cross-Contamination Between Users

CleanTech® automated hand washers use a closed loop drainage system that pulls clean water for each hand wash. There is absolutely no cross-contamination between users and each hand wash uses the perfect amount of UltraPure hand hygiene solution to promote skin health and accomplish more than 99.9% pathogen removal.

An added benefit? There’s no water wasted, as each drop of water used goes directly on the hands instead of just running down the drain. Plus, with only 0.6 gallons used per CleanTech® hand wash cycle, you’ll use less water than with manual handwashing at a traditional sink, especially those circular wash fountains.

Clinically Proven to Remove Pathogens with no Cross-Contamination

CleanTech® Automated Handwashing Stations are the best hand hygiene method for food safety by eliminating cross contamination between users by removing touch points. We’ve even proven this in a 3rd party lab with extensive efficacy studies to ensure that no pathogens pass between users from hand wash to hand wash. These studies have also proven that more than 99.9% of pathogens are removed during each and every automated hand wash.
